NDIS

The national disability insurance scheme (NDIS) is a government funded program that provides support and funding for people with disabilities in Australia. Based in Sydney, NSW our Occupational Therapist (OT) play an important role in our clients NDIS experience, by helping develop skills and strategies to live as independently as possible. Our overall goal is to work collaboratively with the client and their support team to provide person – centred care that promotes independence, participation and inclusion in the community. The OT’s role for our NDIS clients is to help them achieve their goals and maximise their potential.

1. Initial Assessments:

The OT will conduct an initial assessment to determine the client’s strengths and limitations, identify any barriers that limit their participation in daily activates and develop a plan of care.

2. Goal setting:

The OT will work with the client to seat goals that are specific to their needs, measurable, achievable, relevant and time bound (SMART). These goals would be tailored to their unique needs and preferences.

3. Treatment planning:The OT will work with the client to develop a treatment plan based on their goals and the assessment findings. This plan would outline the strategies and intervention that the OT will use to help the client work towards achieving their goals.
4. Skill development:The OT would work with the client to develop skills and strategies to improve the ability to perform daily activities, such as dressing, grooming, cooking, or using public transport.
5. Assistive Technology:The OT would recommend and provide training on the use of assistive technology and equipment, such as mobility aids, communication devices, to help the client achieve their goals.
6. Home Modifications:The OT may recommend home modifications to the clients home environment, such as grab rails, ramps, bathroom modifications to improve safety and accessibility.
7. Education and training:The OT will provide education and training to the client, their families and/or their support network on how to implement the strategies and interventions outlined in the treatment plan.
